To introduce the gas CO₂ as a refrigerant, describing the different grades of CO₂, its advantages, and the phases of the gas at differing pressures and temperatures

Topic Objectives

By the end of this module the learner will be able to:

• List the properties of CO₂
• Describe the different grades of CO₂ and identify the correct grade for use in refrigeration
• List the advantages and challenges of using CO₂ as a refrigerant
• State the temperature and pressure limits at which vapour, liquid, solid and supercritical phases of CO₂ exist
