Preparing Web Browsers to run courses
In order to run courses in Internet Explorer/Mozilla Firefox, there are several
browser security settings that you will need to check.
If you receive an error message when you try to run a course, or if a course
does not appear correctly, please check through the following steps to ensure
that Internet Explorer has been properly configured.
Installation of the Flash 6.0 plug-in
Courses require the Macromedia Flash plug-in to run successfully.
If you receive an error message saying that the Flash plug-in is not installed
visit the Macromedia web site to install the latest Flash player:
http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer
In order for files to be opened from Content Point (e.g. Word or Excel files),
the File download setting must be enabled.
To enable file downloading:
-for Internet Explorer
-
Open Internet Explorer.
-
On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
-
On the Security tab, click Custom Level.

Click Enable under the File download option.
-
Click OK to save the changes.
-for Mozilla Firefox
-
Open Mozilla Firefox.
-
On the Tools menu, click Options...
-
On the Main tab.

Showing pictures on a web page
Pictures must be set to display in your browser in order to use the learning
management system.
To set pictures to display:
-for Internet Explorer
-
Open Internet Explorer.
-
On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
-
Click the Advanced tab.

-
Ensure a tick is in the 'Show Pictures' check box.
-
Click OK to save the changes.
-for Mozilla Firefox
-
Open Mozilla Firefox.
-
On the Tools menu, click Options...
-
Click the Content tab.

-
Ensure a tick is in the 'Load images automatically' check box.
-
Click OK to save the changes.
your browser will need to be configured to allow pop-up windows.
To enable pop-up windows:
-for Internet Explorer
-
Open Internet Explorer.
-
On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
-
On the Security tab, click Custom Level.

Ensure that the above three options are set as shown.

Click OK to close the box.
-
Click OK again to save the options.
-for Mozilla Firefox
-
Open Mozilla Firefox.
-
On the Tools menu, click Options.
-
On the content tab.

Ensure that the 'Block pop-up windows' is set as shown.
-
Click OK to close the box.
JavaScript needs to be enabled to allow courses to run.
To enable JavaScript:
-for Internet Explorer
-
Open Internet Explorer.
-
Select Tools then Internet Options.
-
Select Security then Custom Level.

-
Set 'Active scripting' to Enable.
-
Click OK to save the changes.
-for Mozilla Firefox
-
Open Mozilla Firefox.
-
Select Tools then Options...
-
Select Content .

-
Ensure that the 'Enable JavaScript' is set as shown.
-
Click OK to save the changes
Adding your e-learning server as a Trusted Site
To allow courses to run correctly, your e-learning server may need to be added
as a Trusted Site in Internet Explorer. This will allow courses to run
correctly but will not compromise your computer’s security.
To add your e-learning server as a Trusted Site:
-
Open Internet Explorer.

Click Tools from the menu and select Internet Options.
-
Click on the Security tab.
-
Click on the green icon for Trusted Sites and click the button below it that says Sites.

Type in the address of your e-learning server, e.g. http://eleraning-training.com/.
-
Uncheck the box that says Require server verification for all sites in this zone.

Click the Add button.
-
Click OK.
-
Click OK again to save the new settings.
If you have additional toolbars installed, you may need to turnoff their pop up
blockers separately. You will have a warning message in the top right hand
corner of your screen if this is the case.
The Google toolbar allows you to turn off pop up blockers on the toolbar and
through its associated Options.
It is also possible to uninstall the Google toolbar if you would prefer. Please contact your own IT Department if you wish to do this.
Recognising the Google toolbar
The easiest way check you have the Google toolbar installed is the presence of
the Google search box.

Turning off Pop up Blockers on the toolbar
The Google Toolbar will show an ‘xx blocked’ button as
illustrated below. Please note that ‘xx’ is a number. Click on
this button to allow pop up blockers.

Turning off Pop up Blockers via Options

Click on Settings on the toolbar
-
Select Options.
-
Select More
-
The following screen will appear. Uncheck ‘Enable Pop-up Blocker’
